"With almost half of Bangladesh submerged, 9 million people displaced and a further 280 already killed, the current floods are proving to be one of the most devastating in recent history.
The Muslim Aid field office in Bangladesh together with Muslim Aid’s Canada-based Worldwide Emergency and Disaster Response partner Global Medic will be implementing emergency relief operations worth £750,000 in 13 of the worst-hit areas, concentrating on food supplies, medical care and water purification systems. Muslim Aid has pledged a total of £1 million, and will be working with Global Medic to utilise it in further relief operations.

Maximum production capacity is 100 litres a minute, and once distributed to villagers, will dramatically reduce the risk of water-borne diseases and contamination. Plastic holding tanks and 10,000 jerry cans will also be available to ensure water is readily accessible. On a smaller scale, 2.8 million water purification tablets will also be distributed to provide immediate sterile drinking water.
Much of the relief operations will be established and implemented within a week, with training of local Muslim Aid field staff in place to ensure services are provided to as many people as possible.
“Floods have wreaked huge devastation across Bangladesh; destroying homes and livelihoods and bringing misery to hundreds of thousands of people. Muslim Aid staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to bring food and water, support and comfort to flood victims on the ground. We need your donation today to help people in their time of need. ” said Barrister Hamid Azad, Head of Overseas Programmes at Muslim Aid." article collected from www.muslimaid.org
